Review: Rootstock - 08.04.12

I Am the Third recently took a roadtrip down to Waretown, New Jersey to participate in a music festival called Rootstock.

Their act was preceded by Sons of Jove, who played with them at Webster Hall as well, and by Artemis Pyle of Lynard Skynard.

The IATT band members spent the time before their show supporting the other bands and generally having a good time.

And some happy fans showed off their IATT shirts and other gear.

Late in the night, I Am the Third took one of the three stages at the festival to finish out the first day of the festivities in true Brooklyn style, rocking the crowd and making music to move people.

First, the band set up as Artemis Pyle signed autographs outside.

LS shows off his famous smile as he gets ready to play.

Brandon, keeping it serious.

Getting ready to start.

Steve making some adjustments to the drum set.

As the autographs finished up, the crowd filed in for the last show of the night, and they didn't leave disappointed.

Rooststock is sponsored by 105.7 The Hawk, and the band was honored by introductions both by the station's DJ and then a show promoter, Doc, who insisted that he has never has introduced a band before, but that he feels very different about IATT. In fact, in his introduction he called them "the best band [he's] heard come out of New York for a while," and let the audience know that they should expect great things from the people on stage beside him. And, with that, they began a great show.

They got things started quickly, moving from soulful grooves to upbeat rock tunes flawlessly while the crowd danced, sang, and swayed to the music.

The band went through nearly its entire set. Here they are, playing their famous "Stand (Malik)" from the Kill the Kittens EP.

LS gave us a smooth beat on the congas.

While Steve brought us saucy drum beats from the back of the stage.

And Brandon, Alec, Kat, and Dan bring up the foreground with their upbeat jams.

"The Way Love Spins" got the audience swaying and singing with its smooth sound and ear-catching lyrics.

As the show went on, more and more people were captivated by I Am the Third's unique sound.

Alec's soulful voice is an instrument of its own.

And, an obvious show-closer, "Western Love" was a big hit, as always. Here is Alec closing it out, and below, see the video of the performance.

Overall, the show was, as usual, a great success. Many people got to enjoy IATT's dream rock style, and new fans were made. Check them out next time they play near you!
